This set is thus far the crown jewel of LEGO chess sets. In contrast to most previous sets, there’s plenty to build in addition to playing the game [chess] itself.

The packaging resembles a giant bookcase complete with buttoned latches, and provide a permanent case for the set even after it’s been built. It’s too bad LEGO only had this on the market for a limited time. It should be noted however, that the list price is not 9.99. LEGO was selling this set for 9.99 when it was first released. Understandably the after-market value has increased, but indicating a list price of 9.99 is grossly misleading. The set comprises 2,481 pieces (placing its value at around 0-0, realistically).

Sometimes new themes with Lego sets seem rather recycled or just plain stale. But the new Castle series is great! Gone are the Knight’s Kingdom with their pastel colors and overly-childish sets. The new Castle seems a bit more mature. And the Dwarves’ Mine brings a whole new aspect to the Castle series, giving us our first Lego Dwarves and Trolls. This set is a lot of fun assembling and looks great next to all my other Castle sets (I have them all that are available in the States as of this writing). As a display piece, it is only rivaled by the King’s Castle Siege, and as a play piece it has numerous functions that would (I’m assuming) keep kids busy for a long time. If you’re a Lego Castle fanatic, this piece is definitely worth the hefty price tag. Good luck finding a complete one though, as many sellers are advertising their Dwarves’ Mine as complete, yet without the mini-figures.

I purchased this castle for my son’s 12th birthday. I thought he would be too old for it at first, but when I saw the laboratory and the details I knew he would love it. He just finished studying medieval Europe and enjoyed building the castle and labeling its parts. I was also very impressed with Zelor. When I first received the package, I was dismayed because it was damaged. I called the number on the invoice and to my surprise, the owner answered! He immediately sent out a replacement castle with an additional lego set for the trouble! He also said I could keep the damaged set for spare parts! I would buy any toy from Zelor! Thank you Amazon for providing great products and vendors!

My 5 year old son got this for Christmas, and built it within the span of a few days only because I made him stop and take breaks along the way. It has been played with every day since and I know it will be a long time favorite. He has built only a few other sets so far, but loves legos. The only concern about this product is that the base seems unstable upon moving it which we do every time he is finished playing with it (due to his younger brother trying to play/wreck it). This set states that it is for 8 years and up, but if you have played with legos before it is not that difficult for the little one to put them together following the instructions, however the bags of pieces are not organized like younger age lego sets. Meaning you have to open every single bag to find the pieces you need to build even the people and horses this is not the case with lego sets age 5+, and that is why it took so long to build. My son loves legos, and for the parents always remember it keeps them occupied and away from the TV/video games.This set is worth the money, however I did get this set from Costco for before Christmas as compared to +. I wish I would have bought him the 4+ lego sets a long time ago, but I was worried about all the small pieces (younger brother). I would buy this set again. Today he took the completed castle in for his kiindergarten show-and-tell. He’s so proud and so am I!
